I had the most dumb founding experience today while trying to buy a truck. Background info, it’s a 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD High Country, 90 days old, priced at $48,150, I offered $47k a week ago when it was $48,999 and was told “No.” A sales guy called me this morning and sent me to a manager.
Manager: hey this is (moron), you spoke to (other moron) last week on this truck right?
Me: yes, I offered $47 bucks on it, he told me he needed list which was $48,999...but I see it’s basically $48,000 right now
Manager: Yeah, and your offer was what again?
Me: $47k
Manager: alright let me see what i can do.
*1 hour later I call him back*
Me: hey (moron), calling you back on that truck
Manager: Yeah, the GSM doesn’t want to take that big of a loss.
Me: 47,500...let’s get it done
Manager: nope
Me: $48,000 and you can bill me out right now and I’ll have a wire within 24 hours
Manager: plus doc
Me: what’s the doc fee?
Manager: 495
Me: 48,000 OTD
Manager: nope, pass *hangs up on me*

HOW DO YOU EXPECT THEM TO FEED THEIR KIDS WITHOUT THE $
495
DOC FEE?

Look, four hundred and ninety -five dollars is a perfectly reasonable document fee. Documents don’t just grow on trees you know.

DON’T FORGET THE DOCS AT CHRISTMAS..

Documents are like priceless snowflakes, each plucked from the wild during their peak season when they are perfectly ripe.

So, here’s what bugs me. It’s not that they didn’t want to sell the truck for what was offered, although I don’t understand turning down a guaranteed sale with no effort, but hey, it’s their truck. No, what bothers me is the lack of courtesy. No, “thanks for calling back” or “I’m afraid we can’t do that, but Merry Christmas and have a good day!”. Instead, it’s “nope, pass” and hang up in your face.
There are people who have difficulty with social interaction, but they shouldn’t be in sales or customer interaction positions. And I get that people have bad days, especially around the holidays. But, as grownups and professionals, we are rightly expected to stuff that down and be polite, not take it out on random strangers.

There are very few managers I’ve dealt with...whether it be used car managers or even GM’s, who are actually polite and pleasant to interact with. It sucks

If a sales manager doesn't sell anything then what does a sales manager do?

Unloading inventory at the end of year s hould be a good tax incentive too. Weird.
